Volunteer to shovel snow for your neighbors in need!

The SNA would like to respond to a need that some of our neighbors have during the winter months.  Some residents in our neighborhood are not physically able to shovel their own walks and driveways when it snows, and they also lack the financial means to pay for snow removal.

In response to this need, the SNA is attempting to set up a volunteer snow removal service.  We need able-bodied residents who are willing to devote their time (and backs) to help out neighbors in need.  Our volunteers will be linked up with those in need who are in the closest proximity to them, and perhaps not just snow will be moved around in the Summit Neighborhood, but a lot of good will as well.

If you are in need of this service or if you would like to be a volunteer snow shoveler, please contact Phil Solomon at fillsol8@yahoo.com , and he will contact you with more information.

Volunteers are encouraged to respond soon, as winter is right.   around.   the corner!

Heated Congressional debate at the JCC last night

Despite a small turnout (about twenty in attendance) the 1st District US Congressional candidates went toe-to-toe last night in a friendly – yet quite heated at times – debate sponsored by the SNA at the JCC last night.

Moderated by neighbor Dan Cahill, the evening began with each candidate introducing themselves to the audience in a two-minute speech.  Each then answered a slew of questions on wide-ranging topics including jobs creation, healthcare, Social Security, Iran nuclear armament, trade with China, war in Afghanistan, President Obama’s handling of the Gulf oil spill, and immigration.

Questions were prepared ahead of time by SNA members, and also submitted at the door by the arriving audience.  Questions were also submitted using Twitter.  Following the formal time for submitted questions, the floor opened up to questions from the audience.

The debate heated up at various times, perhaps most notably when a question was asked in regards to the candidates running negative campaigns.  Each candidate denied participating in negative campaigning, and one audience member used his question time to disagree.

The evening ended with each candidate making a closing statement and thanking SNA for hosting.

Last full Waterfire of the season

This Saturday, October 9th.

The last full Waterfire of the season will be the “Flames of Hope” to benefit breast cancer.  This is always a particularly special Waterfire event each year.  And right down the hill!  Proximity to Waterfire is another reason to love our neighborhood, isn’t it?

There is a partial lighting scheduled for October 20, which will be the final event of this season.
