Blackstone Park Volunteers Needed

Blackstone Parks Conservancy is looking for volunteers to work in Blackstone Park on Saturdays during June. Our goal is to remove Japanese bittersweet, and invasive species, throughout the park.

When:
Saturdays from 8:30 to 10:00

Where:
Location varies. Please e-mail me for directions if you plan to join us.

What:
Removing bittersweet throughout the park before it can go to seed.

You may bring your own pruners, weed diggers, and gloves if you wish. I always have some in the back of the car.

Public update on sewer construction

Representatives from the Narragansett Bay Commission and its contractors gave neighborhood residents a progress report May 23 on the extensive sewer construction project.

Program manager Joe Pratt and other officials spoke to about 15 to 20 participants in an open forum arranged by SNA at the Rochambeau Library, which stayed open specifically for the 6 p.m. meeting.

SNA Sustainability Series: Water Features, Fish Ponds, and Mosquito Prevention

Following on the heels of a great Urban Beekeeping event, we’d like to announce the next free workshop in our SNA Sustainability Series: Water Features, Fish Ponds, and Mosquito Prevention, which will take place at 7 PM on 6/6 in the Childcare Center of the East Side/Mount Hope YMCA (438 Hope Street).

Come learn how to create the aquatic garden you’ve always wanted, or just meet some neighbors!  We’re looking forward to seeing you.

The Rhode Island Historical Society presents: The Transit of Venus

In June of 2012, don’t miss the truly once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to observe the Transit of Venus; it won’t happen again until 2117! First on Sunday, June 3rd, learn more about the 1769 Transit on a walking tour of Providence’s East Side, exploring the very site where the Transit was observed almost 250 years ago.  Then, on Tuesday, June 5th, join us at the Museum of Natural History and Planetarium in Roger Williams Park to view the Transit via a live telecast!  Eclipse glasses will be provided.
