Crime Watch – City Councilman Sam Zurier to have meeting – Miriam Hospital’s Monica Anderson reportedly citing renewed community interest
North Main Street – Weinberg states that merchants group at stalemate with city on local plans – Narragansett Bay Commission planners are pushing own agenda despite SNA-hired consultant being on board – proposal for raised crosswalks not being accepted despite being in comprehensive plan – city’s Department of Planning and Development in flux with no permanent director and RIPTA is also pushing own agenda – new meeting scheduled and mayor expected to participate
Hope Street Merchants Association – Binder reports that NBC to upgrade five crosswalks and bumpouts – renovations could extend to library if drainage study done
Snow Shoveling – Schmeling and Page to google/email active volunteers, report two requests in month – they will recommend how to offer service
CURRENT PROJECTS
Yard Sale – Page reports everything ready with 27 sellers signed up and musicians set – food trucks have indicated willingness to attend – reminders to be posted on listserv and web site – set up to begin at 8 a.m. and sale to be from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Candidates Forum – set for 7 p.m., Oct. 17 at Summit Commons with Doherty and Cicilline – Binder requests time, so Weinberg to invite Gordon Fox – plan to solicit advance questions on listserv and take some from audience – Binder volunteers sound system
Pumpkin Bakeoff – Sarah Arrigo coordinating, Anthony to prepare listserv blast – event to include wine tasting and costumes for kids
Spring Easter-Egg Hunt – Arrigo suggests one on East Side as money-maker and neighborhood unity event around March 31 – he will solicit board members to form study committee, Page tentatively volunteers
Rochambeau Library – temporary closing irks neighborhood and SNA asking if it can do anything – no response from library board
Lippitt Park trash/recycling – no progress with parks head McMahon
Tot Lot Gardens – listserv conversation lively, Friends of Tot Lot interest growing over proliferation of toys – next public meeting must be better announced with leaflets in neighborhood and poster/bulletin board in park – some suggestion by meeting visitor that tot lot not needed but dog park is – SNA committed to insuring that all sides are heard – rumor reported that two families are main opponents to community gardens – Lippitt Park and other sites to be examined
