The proposed lifting of the overnight-parking ban in the Summit neighborhood has provoked strong feelings and spirited discussion, some of which have taken the haiku form. Some writers have taken liberties with the traditional format, but here they are, from first to most recent.

overnight parking
is it bad or is it good?
no one can agree

under street light
darkness
black car rests

sell the car, take trains buses
noisy, smelly, elbows, pushes
so walk

morning comes, out we go
oy, sidewalk lumpy, neighbors grumpy
stay home!

overnight parking
is it bad or is it good?
no one can agree

who approved the term
to “design by committee”?
for *I* disagree.

the coach told the team
“there is no ‘I’ in parking
no, wait, there is one”

under street light
darkness
black car rests

overnight parking
is it bad or is it good?
no one can agree

sell the car, take trains, buses
noisy, smelly, elbows, pushes
maybe I should walk

morning comes, with coffee, grumpy
neighbors mumble, the sidewalk lumpy
hey, can’t stay home!

three quiet months pass
a mention of night parking
here we go again

cars, snow, narrow streets
ambulance can’t reach e r
can you imagine?

congestion
narrow streets
disaster

opinions are strong
expression turns to haiku
summit is like that.
